"Wait...What Is That?"
What’s That Tiny Van?
Ever see a little black van at the farmers market and think, Whoa—what is THAT? That’s our Kei van (say it like “kay”). It’s a super small kind of vehicle made for the narrow streets of Japan—and ours is a 1998 Daihatsu Atrai Classic, imported all the way from Japan and now used to serve our ice pops!
It’s one-of-a-kind, full of personality, and kind of a local celebrity.
Why We Use It
This van may be tiny, but it can carry everything we need: coolers, supplies, and a freezer full of delicious pops. We didn’t want a boring, big truck—we wanted something special. So instead of buying something new, we gave this old-school van a brand new job: making people smile and handing out ice pops.
Fun Facts About the Van:
-
The Driver Sits on the Right: Just like in Japan. It’s totally OK to drive here, but people always do a double take.
-
The Engine Hides Under the Seats: There’s no big front hood. The engine is tucked under the front seats, like a secret.
-
It’s Not Fast, and That’s Fine: It tops out a little past 60 miles per hour, which is perfect for cruising through back roads and getting to the farmers markets in one piece.
-
The Back is Our Pop Window: We serve right out of the van! The back opens up like a little pop-up shop.
-
Old + Cool = Less Waste: Instead of sending it to the junkyard, we fixed it up and made it awesome again.
Where You’ll Find It
You’ll find our little van parked at farmers markets all over Connecticut, bringing ice pops and good energy wherever it goes. People smile, snap photos, and stop by to check it out. If you see us at a market, come say hi—and treat yourself to a pop while you’re at it.
